About Us

Hi, my name is Matthew Barr and, as crazy as this may sound, I am passionate about the world of finance and enthusiastic about helping families and individuals achieve their goals and dreams. Believe it or not, tax preparation plays an important role in one’s overall financial picture since so much of what goes on your tax return affords opportunities to strategize and plan for the years ahead.

I am the owner and founder of Barr Tax & Bookkeeping Services, a business that got its start in 2003. Over the years, through recommendations and word of mouth, the business grew and added on more services. Our clients tell us that they enjoy our thoroughness, expertise, and how we painstakingly scour for every possible deduction and credit. They also agree that the fees we charge are fair and reasonable.

In addition to more than a decade’s experience in tax preparation, I am recognized by the IRS as an Enrolled Agent which means I have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. So I can fight the IRS on your behalf if need be and am required to meet annual continuing education requirements. I also have my Masters in Business Administration from UMass Amherst.

Complimentary Tax Consultations

If you’re seeking general tax advice, we would be happy to help. From determining estimated tax payments, to figuring out the appropriate amount of tax withholding, to projecting refunds, please feel free to contact or meet with us any time regarding a free 30 minute review. For more complex matters, a fee may apply.

Tax Representation

In the event you need assistance in dealing with the IRS on any tax issue, we are able to represent and fight for you! We will act as your personal advocate and representative, even if someone else prepared your tax return.

Complimentary Prior-Year Tax Reviews

We find that approximately 2 out of 3 tax returns have either errors or, perhaps worse, missed opportunities that, once rectified, could put hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in your hand. For free, we will look at your last three prior year tax returns to see if anything was missed. If we discover that we can improve your situation with an amendment then a reasonable fee will be assessed for that.
